We want your dog to have a positive experience from the get-go at SDK. The following outlines our strategy. Time frames are estimates.
10-30 min after the arrival: New dog is kenneled in the kennel room to acclimate to new sounds and smells.
5-20 min: SDK staff gets down on the floor to get acquainted with the dog and identify any triggers (such as not liking ears touched.) Please alert staff...

Time frames are estimates. A goofy and confident lab may progress to the back yard in less than 30 min, while an insecure dog may take up to 2 days to completely integrate. If your dog shows discomfort or inappropriate behavior at any stage of the process, we back up to the last step and try again....
Every new dog gets a First Day Report Card chronicling his or her experience. Also, please feel free to ask staff. If the person at pick up did not spend time with your dog, they can ask someone who did to reach out to you. We also make a special effort to get pictures of new dogs to post on our Face Book page....
